Description
Calico white fabric is woven from cotton fibres, and made from cotton crops, so it is completely natural. Because of its unfinished state, there are often cotton seed flecks visible in the fabric. It tends to have a cream finish, making it the perfect base for dying or printing. Calico can also be bleached, resulting in a white finished colour.
Calico is a very basic cotton cloth which gets its distinctive speckled and natural look from the way it is made. The natural fibres are what gives the fabric its versatility, allowing it to be used for just about anything. It is durable, cheap and can be easily dyed, painted or printed on.
One of the most popular uses of calico white is garment mock up before it is created with the final fabric. Dress makers often experiment with a design using cheap material first. Because calico fabric can be sturdy and durable, it’s often used for items such as bags, aprons, curtains, and furnishings. Those items will see daily wear and tear, but need to remain strong and withstand some abrasion and dirt. A huge amount of calico fabric is bleached and dyed and can be used for almost every item of clothing or household item.
